The Turkish authorities said Thursday that 28 of 30 miners trapped 520 meters deep underground in the Karadon coal mine following a gas explosion, have died. Explosions and cave-ins are common in Turkey, mainly because the equipment is worn-out. The worst accident happened in 1992 when in Zonguldak province a methane explosion killed 270 miners.
