Seven crushed to death in Russian storm
A violent storm near Saint Petersburg in heatwave-plagued Russia toppled trees and overturned vehicles, crushing seven people to death and injuring 14 others, authorities said.
"Six people including a 14-year-old girl were crushed by trees, and a man was crushed when his lorry overturned," the local branch of the ministry of emergency situations said.
Fourteen people were injured, four of whom are in a serious condition, the ministry said.
Nearly 132,000 people have lost electricity due to the storm.
An unprecedented heatwave across western Russia has triggered fires that have destroyed entire villages.
So far at least 29 people have been killed, and President Dmitry Medvedev has ordered the army to take action.
