Russia's Aeroflot signed a deal Wednesday to buy eight Boeing 777 jets, with an option to purchase eight more aircraft, during a visit to Moscow by US Vice President Joe Biden.

The two sides did not disclose financial details of the agreement, although Russian news agencies said that the country's flagship air carrier would pay about $250 million per plane.

"This creates high-tech job in Russia, and at home, it will create 11,000 jobs," Biden said during a signing ceremony that was also attended by First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov.

Aeroflot said in a statement that the deal covers six B777-300ER planes and two B777-200ER.

"We intend to use these planes together with the SkyTeam alliance to service international destinations during the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi and the 2018 World Cup," Aeroflot said.

Biden was due later Wednesday to hold talks with President Dmitry Medvedev and have a separate meeting Thursday with Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.
