Russian sought on gun smuggling arrested in Greece: police
A Russian man wanted by Peruvian authorities on gun-smuggling charges was arrested while on holiday in northern Greece on Saturday, local police said.
The unidentified 48-year-old was arrested in the Halkidiki peninsula under a Peruvian warrant "for crimes against the state and national security" and for violating the sovereignty of Peru and Colombia, a police statement said.
The Uzbek-born detainee is suspected of smuggling weapons to the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) -- Latin America's oldest rebel movement, a police source told AFP.
He was allegedly part of a criminal organisation that smuggled over 10,000 Kalashnikov assault rifles to Colombia from Jordan, the statement said.
The suspect will be taken to an extradition hearing on Monday.
