Norwegian authorities late Sunday sent three helicopters and a firefighting boat to help a Russian vessel on fire with 30 persons on board, rescue services said.

"To our knowledge no one is hurt or missing," Asbjoern Viste, spokesman for the Sola rescue centre in southwest Norway, told AFP.

"We are ready to evacuate the ship if the captain asks us," he added.

The fire broke out in the living quarters of the seismic research vessel Akademik Lazarev while it was 70 nautical miles off the Norwegian coast.
