Russian rapper jailed for 10 days after mocking police
A provocative Russian rapper was jailed for 10 days after mocking police corruption and brutality during a concert, the artist's website said.
Noize MC, whose real name is Ivan Alexeyev, was arrested after a concert in the southwestern city of Volgograd on July 31, according to a statement posted on his website Monday.
Police attempted to prevent the rapper and his group from carrying out a trademark routine, in which the crowd shower the stage with coins during a song called "Tunes in the Hat".
The rapper proceeded to perform a song entitled "Smoke the Joint", which criticised the corruption that is endemic in the Russian police force.
The song contained the lyrics: "I'm a piece of shit, someone very big. I've got hands to hold a baton, and a head to wear a cap. You should fear me".
The rapper was jailed for 10 days for minor criminal activity, disturbing public order and indecent invective in public, his website said.
"He sung a song that insulted police and someone shut him down," an unnamed police officer in Volgograd told news website Gazeta.ru.
The statement on the rapper's website said that the arrest came two days after Noize MC's wife gave birth to a son.
The singer made headlines earlier this year with a song called "Mercedes S666", in which he denounced a car accident involving a senior official of the Lukoil energy company that killed two doctors.
Political and business leaders are allowed to use flashing lights on their vehicles to bypass traffic jams, which causes numerous accidents.
