Russian captain arrested for drunkenness: Dutch police
The Russian captain of a cargo ship that ran aground overnight in a river estuary in southwestern Netherlands was arrested in a drunken state and placed in custody, police said Tuesday.
A test showed he had nearly four times the permitted amount of alcohol in his blood, said police spokesman Ad Kraszewski.
The Belize-flagged boat carrying scrap iron from Belgium to Britain ran aground overnight from Monday to Tuesday near Terneuzen, he added.
The 41-year-old captain from St Petersburg was placed in custody for 48 hours while the vessel was anchored at Vlissingen.
