The Kremlin said Monday that it would never change its stance on the four Pacific islands which were seized by Soviet troops at the end of World War II and are now claimed by Tokyo.

"The sovereignty of the Russian Federation in respect to the Kuril Islands will not be subject to any review -- either today or tomorrow," Russian news agencies quoted President Dmitry Medvedev's foreign policy adviser Sergei Prikhodko as saying.
