Russia vows to support Viktor Bout 'by all means'
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Tuesday said his country would support suspected arms dealer Viktor Bout "by all means" and termed his extradition to the US as "extreme injustice."
"This story is an example of extreme injustice. We as a country continue to support him by all means," Lavrov told reporters in the Kenyan capital Nairobi where he is on an official visit.
The 43-year-old Bout was flown out of Bangkok Tuesday after Thailand agreed to his extradition to face terrorism charges in the United States.
Bout had been fighting extradition since his March 2008 arrest in Bangkok by undercover US agents posing as Colombian FARC rebels.
A former Soviet airforce pilot, Bout has been accused of using a fleet of cargo planes to deliver arms in Africa, South America and the Middle East.
