Russia sets dates for nuclear treaty vote: lawmaker
Russia's State Duma lower house of parliament will hold the final two votes on a new Russia-US nuclear disarmament treaty later this month, a top lawmaker said Friday.
The Duma passed the new START agreement in the first of three required hearings on December 24.
Lawmakers have since introduced some 20 pages of non-binding amendments to the treaty, the Duma's foreign affairs committee chairman Konstantin Kosachev told Moscow Echo radio.
He said the second vote that includes the amendments would be held on January 14 and the third and final vote on January 25.
The ruling United Russia party of which Kosachev is a member has the necessary votes to the pass the pact without support from opposition Community Party, which voted against the treaty last month.
