Russia restarts probe into prominent journalist death
Russia has reopened a murder inquiry into the mysterious death of a prominent liberal lawmaker and journalist in 2003, investigators said Thursday.
"Due to the new information received by the investigators... the murder investigation into the death of... Yury Shchekochikhin has been resumed," the Investigative Committee of the State Prosecutor's Office said in a statement.
Shchekochikhin died mysteriously in 2003 at the age of 53 after pursuing a series of high-profile investigations into corruption for the liberal Novaya Gazeta newspaper.
The latest investigation into his death was closed in April last year after officials concluded that he died from a severe allergic reaction, but his friends and relatives suspect he was poisoned.
