Russia will not immediately recall its ambassador to Tokyo after Japan recalled its diplomat in Moscow over President Dmitry Medvedev's visit to the disputed Kuril isles, a Kremlin aide said Tuesday.

"In this case, we do not need to react. If we now call back our ambassador for consultation, it will also be incorrect," presidential aide Vladimir Shevchenko told the Echo of Moscow radio station.

However, Shevchenko added that Moscow could respond with a reciprocal measure if Japan recalled its ambassador "for a long time."
