Russia launched a rocket carrying three of its Glonass navigation satellites into space Sunday from the Baikonur cosmodrome in Kazakhstan, the Interfax news agency reported.

The Proton-M rocket blasted off on time carrying three Glonass-M satellites, part of a system designed by the Russian government as a rival to the United States government's Global Positioning System (GPS), Interfax reported.
