Russia dismisses ambassador to Libya: report
Russia has dismissed its ambassador to Libya, Vladimir Chamov, a source close to the Kremlin told the ITAR-TASS news agency on Saturday, but did not give a reason.
Local newspaper Moskovskiye Novosti said the decision was made a few hours before the vote of a UN resolution authorising the use of force against Libyan leader Moamer Kadhafi's forces and air strikes which was adopted overnight Thursday.
Russia on Friday ruled out taking part in any military operation against Kadhafi's regime after abstaining from the UN Security Council vote.
Russia and China, which both have veto power on the Security Council, abstained from the vote.
Russia's ambassador to the United Nations, Vitaly Churkin, said Moscow feared for the humanitarian consequences of a potential air strike against Libya.
