Putin considers Lagarde's IMF candidacy 'quite acceptable'
Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin considers French Finance Minister Christine Lagarde's candidacy to head the International Monetary Fund 'quite acceptable', RIA Novosti news agency reported Friday.
"It is quite acceptable," Putin told journalists speaking at his official residence in the Moscow region. "France's candidature is, without doubt, very strong."
Last week Russia announced its support of Kazakhstan Central Bank's head Grigory Marchenko for the post, which has been empty following the arrest of former IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn on sex assault charges.
