One killed as oil tanker explodes, sinks in Russian river

An oil tanker exploded and sank in the Don river in southern Russia on Sunday, killing one person and injuring two, but no fuel leaked into the water, authorities said.

"According to preliminary information, the oil tanker sank after the explosion," an official from the emergencies ministry was quoted as saying by the official RIA Novosti agency.

Despite the severity of the fire, no petrol leaked into the river, Interfax news agency reported quoting the same ministry.

The cause of the explosion was not immediately known.
