Norwegian emergency services have brought under control a fire that broke out overnight on board a Russian research ship with 39 crew, the authorities said Monday.

"Nobody was injured among the 39 people on board," Ola Vaage, spokesperson for the rescue centre in the southwestern Norwegian town of Sola, told AFP.

Norway dispatched three helicopters and a firefighting boat to battle the blaze that broke out in the living quarters of the Akademik Lazarev when it was 70 nautical miles off the Norwegian coast.

The Russian vessel was conducting seismic surveys.
