Nine guilty of Russian businessmen's murders
A Russian court found nine members of a crime gang guilty of murdering 11 businessmen after a trial which heard how they used accessories ranging from explosives to wigs in their killing spree.
The nine, who belonged to a criminal group working in Saint Petersburg, may be handed life sentences this week over the murders that took place between 1998 and 2006 in the country's northwest.
During their investigation, authorities seized a grenade launcher, 13 grenades, more than 50 kilos of explosives, six AK-47s, four mufflers, bugging devices as well as disguises such as wigs.
Businessmen have been increasingly targeted since the 1990s but successive pledges by presidents Vladimir Putin and Dmitry Medvedev to tackle domestic violence with an iron fist have had little impact.
