Neo-Nazis attack reporter in Moscow: report
More than a dozen Russian neo-Nazis attacked an ethnic Chechen reporter for the Kommersant business daily, pelting him with kicks and blows but causing no serious injury, a rights group said Friday.
Moscow's SOVA watchdog said reporter Elman Soltakhanov, 38, was jumped by 15 to 20 "Nazi skinheads" who attacked him with shouts of "Russia for Russians!"
The daily said it was looking into the details of what happened but could provide no comment. SOVA said the reporter had decided not to report the case to the police.
Attacks by young Russian nationalists against people from the predominantly Muslim North Caucasus and Central Asia have become common in Moscow and other major cities.
The incidents have drawn expressions of concern in the West and prompted President Dmitry Medvedev to devote several Kremlin meetings to ethnic issues late last year.
A prominent Kommersant reporter who covers human rights and local political issues was attacked outside his home in November and left in a coma for several days.
Medvedev vowed to punish the assailants in nationally televised comments but the incident remains unresolved.
