Medvedev, Yanukovych visit Chernobyl nuclear site: AFP
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych on Tuesday made an unprecedented joint visit to Chernobyl to mark the 25th anniversary of the world's worst nuclear disaster, an AFP correspondent reported.
Medvedev and Yanukovych arrived at the entrance to the plant after attending a church service and were later due to lay flowers close to reactor four where the explosion took place on April 26, 1986.
Medvedev is making the first visit by a Russian president to the plant. Then Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev visited the facility in 1989.
