Medvedev: Period of tense relations with NATO overcome
President Dmitry Medvedev hailed Russia's first summit with NATO in two years a success on Saturday and declared: "A period of very difficult tense relations has been overcome."
"The Russia-NATO summit took place in a very constructive atmosphere," the Russian leader told reporters, after holding talks with the 28 members of the Western alliance for the first time since 2008.
"We agreed that there exist lots of problems upon which we could cooperate very successfully," he said.
Earlier, NATO leaders invited Moscow to take part in developing a European anti-missile shield and announced that Moscow had agreed to allow the allies to ship more military equipment to and from Afghanistan through Russia.
