Legendary Russian ballerina Semyonova dies aged 102
Marina Semyonova, one of the first great Soviet prima ballerinas who made her debut in the 1920s, has died aged 102, Moscow's Bolshoi Theatre said on Wednesday.
"All Russian ballet is in mourning," said the general director of the Bolshoi Theatre Anatoly Iksanov, according to the RIA Novosti news agency.
"At the Bolshoi Theatre she starred as a prima ballerina and then was the wisest and most necessary teacher," he added.
Semyonova began her career at the Kirov ballet, now the Mariinsky, in Saint Petersburg before moving to the Bolshoi in 1930, where she danced until 1952.
