International Monetary Fund managing director Christine Lagarde will travel to Russia after the Group of 20 summit next month for talks with Russian authorities, an IMF spokesman said Thursday.

"Immediately after the Cannes summit, the MD will be traveling to Russia at the invitation of the Russian authorities," Fund spokesman Gerry Rice said at a news briefing.

The summit meeting of the G20 advanced and emerging economies is slated November 3 and 4 in Cannes, France.

The purpose of Lagarde's visit is to "have discussions on the state of the global economy, the regional economy and the Russian economy," Rice said.

Asked whether the European debt crisis was on the agenda, the spokesman said he did not have much more detail on the trip.

"We can imagine... the managing director will be meeting with high-level authorities in Russia," Rice said.
