Gordon Brown stepping down as labour leader

U.K. Prime Minister Gordon Brown, in a statement released on Monday, said he would step down as leader of the Labour Party by its September annual conference. In a solemn statement delivered in front of his residence at 10 Downing Street, Mr. Brown said that Labour was in talks with the Liberal Democrats over a possible coalition.
