Train traffic between Finland and Russia will be disrupted next week due to track work required for a new high-speed train link between the countries, Finnish train operator VR said Wednesday.

The Repin and Sibelius trains running between Helsinki and Saint Petersburg have been cancelled from June 22 to June 25, VR said, adding that the Tolstoi train from Helsinki to Moscow on Monday, June 21, would leave earlier than usual while the one scheduled to leave Moscow for Helsinki that evening had been cancelled.

All trains between the two capitals had been cancelled on June 22-24, as had a train scheduled to run from Helsinki to Moscow on Friday, June 25. A train from Moscow to Helsinki would leave on schedule that evening.

"On June 26, all trains between Finland and Russia will again operate normally," VR said in a statement, adding that alternate plans had been made for cargo transport, which would also be disrupted by the work.

Russia is one of export-reliant Finland's most important foreign trade partners.
