An explosion on a railroad in Russia's Caucasus region of Dagestan on Tuesday derailed several wagons carrying water, police quoted by the Interfax news agency said.

"As a result of the blast on the Manas-Achi stretch of the railroad, two water cisterns derailed," officials said, adding that no casualties were reported.

Authorities are struggling to quash a Muslim insurgency in the country's volatile North Caucasus region, which includes Dagestan, Ingushetia and Chechnya and has seen a spike in violence in recent days.
