Belarus ban on Russian media could threaten loan: Kremlin

Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko's decision to ban Russian media could threaten the release of a bailout loan now being negotiated with Moscow, a Kremlin official said Saturday.

"This cannot but reflect on Russia's decision to review its position concerning the Belarus loan," a high-ranking Kremlin official told the Interfax news agency.

Lukashenko on Friday accused the Russian media of sensationalising the former Soviet republic's economic crisis and causing panic-buying on the streets of Minsk and other major cities.

"Do everything to make sure that these media are no longer present on our territory," Lukashenko instructed his ministers in televised remarks.
