The artistic director of the Bolshoi ballet Sergei Filin, battling to recover his eyesight after a horrific acid attack, is to be sent from Moscow to Germany for further treatment, officials said Tuesday.

"Our specialists have done everything to heal the burns (on his face) in the acute phase," Russian health ministry spokesman Oleg Salagai was quoted as saying by Russian news agencies.

"Nevertheless, the specialists have decided to send Sergei Filin to Germany for further treatment," he added.

Russia's chief eye doctor Vladimir Neroyev told the RIA Novosti news agency that 42-year-old Filin, an acclaimed former dancer, would be sent to a clinic in the German city of Aachen in around a week.

Police are still hunting for the attacker who flung acid into Filin's eyes and face earlier this month, with the Bolshoi saying it believes the attack was linked to his work.
