Aeroflot to buy 16 Boeing 777 jets
Aeroflot, Russia's flagship airline, said Thursday it plans to buy 16 long-range aircraft from US aerospace giant Boeing in a deal reportedly worth some five billion dollars.
According to a preliminary agreement, state-run Aeroflot will buy eight B777-200ER and eight B777-300ER planes for delivery between 2012 and 2017, a spokeswoman for the company told AFP.
Aeroflot may also purchase four B787 Dreamliners to fly passengers to Russia for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games that Moscow is preparing to host in the Black Sea resort of Sochi.
The company did not give a value for the deal but a report in the Vedomosti financial daily said it could be worth nearly five billion dollars.
