Amsterdam | 14/05/2009 - 20/09/2009 Odilon Redon and Emile Bernard - Masterpieces from the Andries Bonger collection

Presentation featuring more than 80 works – paintings, drawings, pastels, prints and tapestries – selected from the collection of the Amsterdam insurer and banker Andries Bonger (1861-1936). Bongert became acquainted with Theo van Gogh, the brother of the Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890), during his time in Paris from 1879 to 1892. Theo introduced him to modern French art, and after Bonger returned to the Netherlands he started collecting, particularly works by his friends Odilon Redon (1840-1916) and Emile Bernard (1868-1941). A large part of this collection was acquired in 1996 by the Dutch State and given to the Van Gogh Museum on long term loan.
