Bring in the knowledge: The impact of Expats in 2008 14/02/2008 00:00
Companies are aware that knowledge workers are key to the success of the Dutch economy and, focusing on this growing community, a new congress 'The Impact of Expats' aims to cover everything which companies in the Netherlands bringing knowledge workers into the country need to know.
The success of the Dutch economy is knowledge-based and Dutch business and industry know only too well that it is the presence of highly skilled workers in a city which increases its capacity for innovation and makes it attractive for new business.
Amsterdam, with its highly rated quality of life, cultural diversity and lively reputation is becoming increasingly popular with skilled internationals seeking to develop their careers abroad.
The emergence of the district Amsterdam Zuidas, in the southern part of the city and flanked by Amsterdam’s Old South and the residential district of Buitenveldert is a good example of the impact of the growing ‘knowledge-bubble’.
Focusing on this expanding community, Euroforum and Vesteda jointly decided to develop a congress which covers all the issues surrounding the support and attraction of knowledge migrants.
The congress, 'The Impact of Expats’ will take place on Thursday 20 March 2008 at the Hotel Okura in Amsterdam.
Throughout the day, congress participants will learn about developments in several areas including permits for knowledge workers, the latest developments regarding the 30 percent ruling, and intercultural expert Fons Trompenaars will explore the concept of culture in depth.
Mayor of Amsterdam, Job Cohen (see photo on right), will consider at length the importance of the knowledge-based economy, the role that the expat office will play in this and the municipality’s contribution to maintaining the knowledge-based economy.
Expert Carlo Douven will discuss in more detail the current developments in case law and legislation, along with other experts who will inform on work permits, residence permits and other obligations for employing knowledge workers.
Join us for a day of knowledge gathering and networking!

My best guess is that if your diploma is a high school degree it can be Voortgezet Wetenschappelijk Onderwijs. If it is university degree: universiteits diploma of bul. If it is in between: hogere beroepsopleiding. But do contact nuffic on this. Good luck! David Nauta www.guapa.org Asked by : Simon Brumby Answered by : Immigration Expert David Nauta
