Lebara Mobile: Bringing people closer together (sponsored contribution) Why should expats consider a prepaid mobile card? Managing Director, Marcel Timmerhuis, explains the benefits of Lebara Mobile for international callers.

Q: Can you give us some background on Lebara Mobile?
A: Lebara Mobile is one of the largest prepaid mobile providers in The Netherlands and an established company you can rely on. Lebara currently has 2.5 million customers in eight countries worldwide. Many new companies come and go in the prepaid mobile market, but Lebara has already been around for more than 9 years.

In The Netherlands, Lebara Mobile uses the KPN network, which is the best mobile network in the region. All service, however, is provided by Lebara Mobile – in a wide range of languages. So you don’t have to understand Dutch to utilize all its services.

Lebara’s mission is to provide services that bring people closer together. We want to offer the best quality service and price to help our customers be closer to friends and family.

Q: What is unique about Lebara Mobile’s prepaid service?

A: Lebara is the clear price leader when compared to other prepaid mobile companies. Rates within The Netherlands are 12 cents/minute to a fixed line and 26 cents/minute to a mobile. Rates within the EU are 14 cents/minute to a fixed line and 41 cents/minute to a mobile. The rate to the USA is 15 cents/minute to all locations, whether mobile or fixed line.

In addition, Lebara customers always get call credit for DOUBLE the top up amount. So a customer topping up with EUR 10 will get EUR 20 call credit. Customers can top up at over 20.000 locations everywhere: gas stations, retailers, newsstands, supermarkets, as well as on the website and direct from their mobile phone.

Many prepaid companies require a separate SIM card for long distance calls. With Lebara, you only need one SIM card for both your local and long distance calls. Lebara’s rates for calls within The Netherlands are similar to other local providers, but the savings on international calls are significant.

Q: Are Lebara mobile costs competitive for an expat who needs to call abroad regularly?

A: Expats often do a lot of international calling to stay in touch with family and friends back home. This can be especially true for trailing spouses, who may be staying at home with children or are unable to work in their host country. Lebara’s competitive rates are a wise option for people who regularly call abroad.

For expats on short-term assignments, a prepaid SIM card is ideal. Lebara customers do not have to sign a contract, so they only pay for what they need. Even if staying in The Netherlands for longer, Lebara is still the low cost option for high quality calling.

A: Fixed lines require a contract with monthly fees and need to be installed (usually with installation charges). With Lebara, there are no set up fees and customers don’t even have to register or show ID to sign up.

When comparing Lebara Mobile to internet calling, the outstanding feature is quality. Customers do not have to worry about issues such as echo or dropped calls. Lebara places a high value on the quality of long distance calls. They focus on buying services on traditional copper phone lines (not virtual) and make it a priority to purchase quality connections around the world. Q: Are there discounted rates for calling other Lebara Mobile users?
A: Lebara customers can call other Lebara users within The Netherlands at 24 cents a call (up 30 minutes), we call this Lebara Family. Lebara customers in the Netherlands can text each other for just 10 cents per message. In the Netherlands, there are currently over 800,000 customers in the Lebara Family.

Q: What special offer do you have for Expatica members?
A: We have ten Lebara SIM cards loaded with EUR 60 call credit each for ten lucky winners. Click here to enter the draw!
