Diploma Evaluation: The right to learn and achieve the best If you are thinking of studying or working in the Netherlands and hold an English diploma, you will often be requested to provide a diploma evaluation or credential.

This means that your diploma is compared to the Dutch education system as you are an international student. In the Netherlands, two centres of expertise work together on diploma-evaluation: The Nuffic in The Hague and Colo in Zoetermeer.

For information on the procedure of diploma evaluation to study, work or work and study in the Netherlands, contact their joint information desk the 'Informatiecentrum Diplomawaardering (IcDW)' or visit their website: www.idw.nl

Secondary or higher education diploma's

If you are planning to study in the Netherlands you should contact the educational institution of your choice first. They often provide diploma evaluations at no additional cost. The Nuffic in The Hague is the central point of contact for evaluation of diplomas in higher and general secondary education. Where possible they compare your diploma to a Dutch diploma. Individual courses or modules that were taken, study credits and academic level of the programme are also taken into account. There is a charge for this service.
For more information visit www.nuffic.nl.

 Vocational training and qualifications

The Centre for International Credential Evaluation (IDW) at Colo collates knowledge on vocational education systems and vocational training courses abroad. Based on the student rights this knowledge is used to compare courses of study and certificates obtained abroad with the Dutch education system. The centre for credential evaluation works in close collaboration with the European centres of expertise. Colo has also been appointed National Reference Point (comparable to UK Naric).
For more information visit www.colo.nl.

Teaching qualifications

Teaching is a regulated profession in the Netherlands. Therefore, it is mandatory for teachers trained in the UK or individuals interested in taking up a teaching career to have their qualification(s) recognised in the Netherlands before they are allowed to work as a teacher. For information on the regulations and application procedure for a Dutch teaching qualification contact The IB-groep in Groningen:
