Storm causes some flooding but little damage

Two Rotterdam areas and parts of Vlaardingen, Schiedam and Maassluis were affected.

In Dordrecht, city centre residents were advised to ready themselves for high water levels and sandbags were distributed in some places.

In northern parts of the country, local water boards were out in force to monitor the dykes, which will remain under surveillance until Wednesday afternoon.

Some sluices were closed as a precaution.

Damage

The storm itself caused some damage to trees and property, reaching storm force 9 in Hoek van Holland and on the Wadden Sea islands.

The highest wind speed recorded was 108 kph.

Train services are still affected around Baarn because of damage caused by lightening.

The blustery winds with occasional heavy showers are expected to die out by Wednesday afternoon.
