THE NETHERLANDS - Dutch crime reporter Peter R de Vries has been nominated for an Emmy award, the most prestigious US television prize, for one of his programmes covering the disappearance of US teenager Natalee Holloway.
The programme, competing in the current affairs category, featured secretly-filmed footage of Joran van der Sloot, who was the chief suspect in the case.
In the programme, Van der Sloot admits to being involved in the disappearance of Ms Holloway. However, he later retracted the statement and claimed he had just been showing off.
The programme attracted huge audiences in both the Netherlands and the United States. De Vries was a much-wanted guest on many US talk shows and news programmes in the wake of the broadcast.
The Emmy awards ceremony is scheduled for 22 September in New York.
