28/02/2009Crash survivors to claim as group

One of the survivors of Thursday's Turkish Airlines crash at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport says he wants to team up with other survivors to claim compensation.

AMSTERDAM -- To this end, he has set up an website and hired a lawyer. The man says a collective claim is more effective.

Speaking in a television programme, he warned against aggressive lawyers, especially American ones, who promise high compensations.

Two other survivors have asked a lawyer in Amsterdam to claim compensation.

On Friday Turkish Airlines pledged to pay EUR 50.000 in compensation to the relatives of the nine passengers who died in the crash.

The airline said people who were injured will receive between EUR 5.000 and 10.000.

One seriously injured passenger remains in a critical condition.
