02/01/2011Boney M. star's body returns to the Netherlands

RNW

The body of Boney M. popstar Bobby Farrel will return to the Netherlands on Monday according to his agent John Seine.

Farrell died of heart failure on Thursday in his hotel room in the Russian city of St Petersburg. He had performed in concert the previous evening. It is not known when his funeral will be held.

Farrell, who lived in the Netherlands, was a singer, dancer and DJ. In 1976, he joined the German band Boney M with three female singers. In the 1970s the band had international hits with the songs Sunny, Ma Baker and Rivers of Babylon. Although Farrell was front man of the band, he didn't actually sing. The songs were recorded by the band's German producer, Frank Farian, and Farrel mimed the lyrics.
