Washington, DC – US President Barack Obama nominated Fay Hartog-Levin the next ambassador to the Netherlands on Thursday.
Hartog-Levin has been a long-standing activist for the Democrats and supported Mr Obama in his presidential campaign.
Her parents emigrated from the Netherlands to the United States after World War II.
In recent years, she has worked as a senior consultant in a politically connected public affairs and media relations firm in Chicago.
The appointment still has to be confirmed by the US senate.
