Confidential documents belonging to companies, consumers and lawyers were unprotected and available for downloads for years on the Disputes Commission website.

THE NETHERLANDS – Confidential documents belonging to companies, consumers and lawyers were unprotected and available for downloads for years on the Disputes Commission website, report NOS.

The security leak was discovered on Monday and reported to the Disputes Commission who took the confidential section of its website offline.

Under the confidential section, countless documents which could be downloaded included invoices, correspondence between lawyers and legal aid agencies dating back to 2005.

People who logged into the site under the reference number of their own dispute were able to replace the number in the address bar with the number of any other case. This gave access to all the documents concerned with the dispute in question.

The Disputes Commission, which arbitrates in disputes between consumers and companies, is an umbrella organisation for separate government approved commissions providing arbitration for consumers in 42 different sectors.
