16/11/2009Probe after Dutch journalists enter royal palace with 'bomb'

Dutch anti-terrorism authorities are to re-examine royal security procedures after two journalists drove unhindered into Queen Beatrix's palace in The Hague with a fake bomb, a spokeswoman said.

The Hague--"This incident leads us to examine very closely our procedures and work methods" in terms of security at the five royal palaces, Judith Sluiter, spokeswoman for national anti-terrorism coordinator the NCTB, told AFP.

The coordinator, in charge of royal household security, will look into "entry checks, work methods and the carrying out of procedures in all the palaces," Sluiter said.

The private SBS channel on Sunday broadcast footage of two journalists who said they were odd job men entering the palace after showing their passports to police.

The journalists telephoned royal police beforehand to say they were coming to do some work at the palace and when they arrived, police did not search their vehicle, which was carrying a fake bomb.

One inside the palace grounds, the journalists got into the royal stables where they were questioned by a wary guard after which they left.

"We strongly regret the incident shown during the programme. Clearly there were some dysfunctions," said Sluiter. "Where necessary, we will adapt procedures."
