22/10/2009DSB mother company declared bankrupt

About 400 people working for companies under DSB Beheer will lose their jobs following its official bankrupt declaration.

Amsterdam – DSB Beheer, the mother company of Dick Scheringa's DSB bank, has been officially declared bankrupt.

The DSB mother company owns a number of insurance and internet companies, as well as Alkmaar's AZ football stadium. The seizure will not affect AZ, as the club rents the stadium irrespective of its owner.

Alongside the 2,000 job losses from DSB bank, about 400 people will lose their jobs from the 30 or so companies owned by DSB Beheer. The companies and their assets will be sold to pay off some of the debts of DSB Bank.

The Scheringa Museum in the village of Spanbroek has also gone into receivership. On Tuesday, the art collection assembled by Scheringa and his wife Baukje has an estimated value of EUR, has been taken possession by ABN Amro bank in lieu for a EUR 32 million loan.

Scheringa took up the loan to construct a new museum in the nearby village of Opmeer.

An ABN Amro spokesperson said the art seizure could have been avoided if Scheringa had agreed to a special construction which would involve renting the art works to third parties, so that the tax office could not lay claim to them.
