ROTTERDAM – The Blijdorp Zoo in Rotterdam will evaluate the events surrounding the escape of gorilla Bokito in the coming days.
The employees of the Blijdorp Zoo met on Monday to discuss the situation. The zoo still wants to hold talks with the emergency services and will organise a press conference on Wednesday, a spokesperson reported.
At that point the zoo will announce what measures will be taken with regard to Bokito. The male gorilla escaped his habitat on Friday.
He may have become aggressive after visitors threw stones at him. A woman had also persisted in making eye contact with the ape, which the animal presumably perceived as threatening.
Bokito attacked the woman and left her seriously injured. Three other zoo visitors were injured in the panic that ensued.
