AMSTERDAM — The human remains found in water in the southern city of Schiedam on Wednesday are that of a woman.
She has yet to be identified, a police spokesperson said. An autopsy is being carried out to establish how she died.
The body was found wrapped in plastic at 5.30pm on Wednesday in water next to Idenburgstraat in Schiedam. She had been in the water for several days.
The discovery shocked local people, particularly because a large number of children had been playing in the vicinity.
Police searched the neighbourhood and talked to residents in a bid to find out who she is and how her body came to be in the water.
An elderly man was stabbed to death on Minister Donkerstraat in Schiedam on Wednesday. The police said there was no connection between the two cases.
