THE HAGUE – Crown Prince Willem-Alexander made a surprise visit to the Dutch troops in the southern Afghan province of Uruzgan this week.

The prince arrived in Kabul on Monday and visited the troops at Kamp Holland today. He also met Dutch troops stationed not far from Kandahar airport as part of the ISAF force.

The prince was accompanied by state secretary for defence Cees van der Knaap. Willem-Alexander talked extensively with the troops and said he was impressed with their dedication in such difficult circumstances, the government information service announced.

The delegation left Afghanistan this afternoon.
