AMSTERDAM – The General Intelligence and Security Service (AIVD) has watched Geert Wilders for years during his visits to the Israeli embassy in The Hague. Sources close to the intelligence service have disclosed this to the Telegraaf.

Wilders is demanding an explanation from Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende (Christian democrat CDA). The Freedom Party PVV leader says it is scandalous that the secret service has been keeping an eye on a politician during his normal work activities. He wants to know which ministers were aware of the situation.

The AIVD has refused to comment. A spokesperson for the Israeli embassy told the Telegraaf that Wilders' meetings at the embassy were all part of the legitimate diplomatic business of the embassy. Wilders says that the visits took place as part of his work as an MP.
