Wilders setting up international network

Populist Dutch politician Geert Wilders has announced he is busy setting up an international umbrella organisation for people and organisations which in his view are "fighting for freedom and against Islam" like his own Freedom Party.

He hopes to be able to present the International Freedom Alliance, as it will be called, with like minds from the United States, Canada, Great Britain, Germany and France by the end of this year. Mr Wilders says he is working together with prominent persons but was not prepared to name any names.

The Freedom Party leader says people who wish to support the IFA do not have to be directly politically active.

Many countries, he says, have a need a voice like his party's. In Britain and France, for instance, right-wing voters only have a choice between the traditional conservative parties and what he called "unsavoury" far-right parties.
