According to UK bookmakers, Dutch midfielder Wesley Sneijder is the favourite to win the award for best player football in the world, the FIFA Golden Ball. If he is successful, it will be the first time since 1992 that a Dutchman has won the prestigious prize. On that occasion the award went to Dutch striker Marco van Basten.

According to the bookmakers, Sneijder will face the toughest competition from Spanish midfielders Xavi and Andres Iniesta. They won the World Cup last summer with Spain. Sneijder was a losing finalist, but on the other hand his club site Inter Milan won the Italian Cup, the championship and the Champions League.

The winner of the Golden Ball will be announced on 10 January 2011 in Zurich. The current holder of the award is Argentinian Lionel Messi.
