AMSTERDAM — A 20-year-old man received a 12-month sentence in a court in the Dutch town on Breda on Friday for blackmailing underage girls to perform sexual acts on a webcam.
The last three months of the sentence were suspended on the man, identified only as B.N. of Beverwijk.
The court heard he blackmailed 16 underage girls for months. He contacted each victim initially in an internet chat room. Having gained the girls' confidence, he persuaded them to strip and perform sexual acts. He recorded the behaviour via a webcam link.
By threatening to circulate the footage over the internet or to give the victims' family members, he forced the girls to continue flaunting themselves and to perform more explicit acts.
The court convicted the man of criminal assault, inciting sexual acts by a minor and making and circulating child porn.
He was acquitted of sexual abuse charges because the incidents occurred over the internet and he was never physically present with the girls.
The victims live in various parts of the Netherlands, including Amsterdam, Raamsdonkveer and Waalwijk. N. said he did not know what he was doing was against the law.
