THE HAGUE – Motorists' association ANWB has reported that the rush hour this morning was extremely busy.

There were 220 kilometres of traffic jams at 9 am today, the maximum on a Friday morning is usually about 50 kilometres.

The reason for the congestion is the heavy rainfall and fierce wind gusts, says a spokesperson for the ANWB. An accident involving a tractor trailer on the A16 near Rotterdam early in the morning also closed lanes.

Emergency road works on the A16 (Breda-Rotterdam) also caused a 25 km traffic jam at about 9.15 am.
