HEERHUGOWAARD – The family of the high school student who was died on Monday after being struck several times by another youth has asked the media to show restraint in the coming days. "We don't want a media circus," said Rein Huijsman, the victim's uncle.

The violent incident took place in the schoolyard of the victim's school in Alkmaar on Monday afternoon. The victim was taken to hospital where he died late on Monday night.

Huijsman acted as the family's spokesperson and said that the family was going through a terrible time. "We are working through this within the family in our own way. We are extremely appreciative of the restraint that has been shown thus far and hope that this will continue in the days to come."

In an interview with the AD, the father of the boy suspected of striking the victim said he was angry at all the "lies and untruths" that have been circulating over the past few days.

"My son never intended to kill that boy. I know him through and through." He added that his son accepts the fact that he will have to serve time.

The father admits his son can be a difficult person, but he is outraged that he is being portrayed as a criminal psychopath.

"My son's actions were not premeditated. Nor was there any knuckle buster or other weapon involved. He threw two punches, not even hard, but in the wrong place," the father said in the interview.
